We finally go the keys to the apartment.. its big! There are some things that we need to make sure get done to it, but things will get there and things will be good.
We went to Ikea and bought all of our furniture and things we needed like cups, trash cans etc.. Getting there was quite an interesting ride. The F train is under maintenance so it dropped us off and we had to take a shuttle into downtown Brooklyn. From there we needed to take another bus to the Ikea store, we decided to stop and get some delicious pizza before going. The bus ride was... ok I guess, nothing different from a Tucson City bus, rather just busier.
Ikea was a fun and exhausting experience. We spent 6.5 hours there!!! They had a fantastic deal of delivery for only 49$, so we HAD to get it all!! hahaha. We went through the whole show room picking up stuff and choosing color schemes, we then started to write all the numbers down of all the stuff we wanted. David kept checking amount to make sure we were within budget. Well there are only 2 of us a waaaaay too much stuff to take so we had to do everything in 2 trips. Went through the delivery section and can now expect all of our stuff today. 6 carts of stuff later we were out of the store by 9:20pm.
Since the delivery for all of our stuff wouldn't be at our apartment until today, we had to get another hotel room. So we called Athena (thanks again) to do that "name your own price" for another night in a hotel. We got a great deal in Murray Hill. Getting to Manhattan was a bit more complicated since our train was under maintenance so we had to take 4 different transfers to make it into manhattan, made it to bed at around 11:00pm. We had to take the bus back to downtown Brooklyn, then figure it our from there. Thank goodness for maps and intuition!
We have been cleaning the apartment today and getting it ready for when all those boxes get to our front door. However today will be a short day since I have to be out the door by 5:30am for orientation!

A fabulous night to a not so shinny day...
David and I arrived safely yesterday at 3-ish. We got our bag and shared a "cab" with some woman and paid 40$ to get into the city. we checked in and went out for a walk... for 2 hours
when we came back, my legs were ON FIRE!!! why didn't anyone warn me about "cold wind burn"?!?!?!?!?! I looked like i had been laying at a beach for 8 hrs without sunscreen... and it hurt!! luckily it eventually went away... learned my lesson of layers fairly quickly into our arrival in the big apple.
david wanted to go out, me on the other hand, couldnt bring myself back into that wind... david won. we went to dinner... took a cab into little italy where we ended up at chacha cafe. it was delicious. david ordered the bruschetta and i ordered the fetuchini alfredo, i've never had a sauce so thick.... it was a good change. filling and not bad in price. The owner talked to us after dinner and gave us "vip" cards that gets us a little discount every time we go. not bad at all.
after dinner we were wipped and ready for bed.
today...
David and I had a lazzzzy morning, once we finally made it out of bed and into the 20-some degree weather we went out to look for a safe deposit box. First stop: the BofA across the street from my work. No luck. 2nd stop: 52nd and Park. No luck. 3rd Stop: 48th and 5th. NO LUCK!!!! but we got an appointment for one at 72nd and 1st.....
it was now 1:30 so we had to get to Brooklyn to get out keys to our new place.
1.5 hrs of conquering the subway lines (thanks to David's black berry) we make it to the property manager's office.
OH were we in for a trip!!! Attitude anyone? Oh yeah i forgot i was in Brooklyn! Well our fantastic realtor forgot to tell us the small tiny detail of needing a CERTIFIED check! She also tells us we cant get the keys today. After a little "nice" words, she says "ok you can have them today once we get the deposit". Yeah I thought so.... so we go in search of a BofA (mind you we had been to 3 this morning...)
Oh wait! Brooklyn has 2 BofAs and they are 30 mins from where we were... we tried to go to a HSBC to see if we can get this check there, but only to find out we needed the funds to be there.. So we called this woman back and told her we will see her tomorrow. So much for getting the apartment today.
it is now... 4pm and on our way back to manhattan with empty stomaches, pissed and annoyed.
we get back to the hotel by 5-ish and I had the fantastic idea to go to a restaurant called "la bonne soupe" on 55th between 5th and 6th.
Boy did our night turn around! i got a "prix fixe" dinner: bread, salad, french onion soup, dessert and a drink for 18.25... david got a steak and pommes frites. it was in a cute place, warm, busy, cozy, and very... french. will definitely go back again!
in the middle of dinner we decided to go to a broadway show so david rudely interrupted my latte drinking and hurried me out the door. we walked over to times square and bought tickets to see wicked. let's just say we wont be going to broadway shows as much as we thought we would.... either way, we got fantastic seats in the orchestra's center section. The show was AMAZING! laughed a lot, and if you seen it... doesn't david remind you of Gah-linda???
We are now out of the 19 degree wind and in our hotel room in much better moods and optimistic for tomorrow.
